THE MISSION
THE MISSION
• To unearth, collect, protect, preserve, and promote the
history of Black Houston County.
• To identify and make known the unsung Heroes and
Sheroes, as well as, identifying places and locations where
our ancestors sacrificed so much in a land that denied them
their birth given right.
• To educate the public of all ages, present and future
generations, about the contributions of the enslaved and
their descendants through publications, displays, and
historical markers.
“I tried to Keep Quiet,
But My Ancestors Won’t Let Me”
“I tried to Keep Quiet,
But My Ancestors Won’t Let Me”
When we learn of them...
"Our senses, restore, never to be the same,
whisper to us...
They existed. They existed.
We can be. Be and be better.
For they existed".
